Market Day ~ Eat this…

Summer foods to feed your soul.

Eating fresh, local food from the farmers’ market has really invigorated me this summer!  The taste of the food brought directly to the market by the farmer is simply scrumptious.  Physically and mentally, the delicious edibles that I bring home each week feed my soul.

More vendor listings are below with notes to let you know which vendors will be at the market this week.  I can promise you that there will be plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as honey, salsa, pesto, brownies, cheesecake, barbeque, tamales and much more!

These juicy strawberries come from Unger Farms, melons I have bought the last couple of weeks from Sweet Leaf Farm and the peaches I will be eating for the rest of the season are sold (individually and by the case) by Baird Family Orchards.  All 3 of these fruits will be offered to you this week at the market, so come support local and feel good all over.

Volunteers feed the market…
We need help to make this market come to the community each week.  Volunteers work 2-3 hour shifts between 3:00 - 8:00 pm and we could really use a few people to help with set-up from 12:00 - 3:00 pm and breakdown from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

Please check out the volunteer shifts below and contact me today!

Market Day ~ Worth a thousand words…

Fruit and veggies that are “picture perfect”

Yum! Take a look at the pictures on this page… I took them last week at the market and have been amazed by the deliciousness of all the fruits and veggies that come to this market!

I bought a whole case of peaches from Baird Orchards, berries from Unger Farms and lots of veggies from Sweet Leaf Farm (including a few tomatoes).

This week, I am excited to announce a new food vendor will be joining IFM providing prepared vegetarian soups, hearty salads and curries. Zuppa (Italian for Soup) is a Portland based catering company with a commitment to using fresh local and organic ingredients.  Here are a few of Zuppa’s sustainable practices:

  • Whenever possible we buy from other vendors at the farmers’ market.

  • Our disposable bowls and silverware are all compostable.

  • All food waste at our kitchen is composted as part of Portland’s city program.

Please join us this week at the IFM stage as Kate Mann plays throughout the afternoon and into the evening…

Strong acoustic guitar arrangements with slide guitar, harmonica, rumbling drums, accordion and classical guitar sounds to conjure images of gypsy caravans and moonlit nights. A southwestern journey of the nighttime world with snapshots of love lost and dangerous encounters.

Market Day ~ Summer’s heat and yummy treats

Escape the heat with summer food and shade

Come to the Interstate Farmers’ Market and make it a picnic!  Ample shade from the trees in Overlook Park provide a lovely way to spend a hot afternoon in the city.  This Wednesday, join us for Sambafeat on the IFM stage (more info below).

I tasted my first market melon this past week from Sweet Leaf Farms - so sweet and refreshing on a hot day.  At least 3 varieties of peaches were at the market (I bit into one smiling with juice dripping down my arm!)  Berries are plentiful with blackberries starting to come in.  Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries still producing beautiful fruit as well as cherries (Vans and Rainiers), nectarines and apricots.

Buying vegetables mid-week is a great way to have fresh food until the weekend: snow peas, fava beans, sugar snap peas, lettuce (romaine, oak, butter, romaine), turnips, radishes, green garlic, garlic scapes (aka whistles), carrots, potatoes, fresh herbs, fennel, rainbow chard, shallots, cucumbers, zucchini, fresh onions, arugula, cabbage, carrots, beets, radishes, tomatoes and much more!

We’re always looking for volunteers during Wednesdays to help run the market each week…  Volunteers work 2-3 hour shifts between 3:00 - 8:00 pm and we could really use a few people to help with breakdown from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  Check out the volunteer shifts below and contact me today!
